Since it came into existence in 1883 many ardent fans of this enthralling game have leaped at all those shots which have landed among the cheering audiences. The stadium has capacity of 60,000 people. The first international test match played here between India and West Indies in 1948. In 1982, first international one-day match played here between India and Sri Lanka.
